Project Medishare has been working in Haiti since 1994 providing community health and development services to more than 80,000 people annually.
Project Medishare operates programs in Maternal and Child Health, Community Health, School-based Health Centers, School Feeding and Malnutrition programs, and Orphan and Vulnerable Child Protection, among many other areas of community development. Project Medishare also provides training and education in trauma and critical care through our partnership with Hospital Bernard Mevs, one of Haiti's only trauma and critical care hospitals with Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units.
Due to our longstanding presence in Haiti and our experience with mounting major disaster responses after the 2010 earthquake and Hurricane Matthew in 2016, Project Medishare is leading the coordination of medical relief efforts after the devastating earthquake in Southern Haiti, including procuring emergency medical equipment, medical supplies and medications and treating critically injured earthquake victims at our partner hospital, Hospital Bernard Mevs, in Port-Au-Prince. The hospital has received over 50 patients, including many children requiring emergency surgery and trauma care for crush injuries sustained in the earthquake. In addition to the immediate medical response, Project Medishare will be distributing emergency hygiene kits and hosting mobile clinics to deliver community health and maternal health services to families in the South affected by the earthquake.
