For Life OUT Here is the slogan of the Tractor Supply Company. But they've reversed course on those who are OUT and proud. Tractor Supply is turning its back on its own neighbors, including LGBTQ+ people, by caving to far-right extremists on social media. Radishes or Rainbows? We can and should have both.
With its network of brick-and-mortar stores, Tractor Supply serves everyone from homeowners to farmers. In many places, it's where you buy your dog food, bird seed and chicken food. It's where you get lawn and garden supplies, buy your seasonal plants and even get holiday decorations.
LGBTQ+ and allied customers and employees have long been part of the Tractor Supply family. We're also part of their future market.
That's why their latest move is bad business. Close to 30% of Gen Z identifies as LGBTQ+ — and we live in every ZIP code in this country. Our buying power as a community is $1.4 trillion.
Tractor Supply's decision to no longer participate in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Corporate Equality Index; cease its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts; and withdraw from its carbon emissions goals is only going to hurt customers and families in the communities they call home.
LGBTQ+ people and our supporters live in rural communities and are their shoppers and employees.
Companies from every industry work closely with the HRC to ensure their employees and customers are respected and valued — and can get the job done for their workforces and shareholders. Tractor Supply's surrender only hurts the same folks that these businesses rely on. And their employees and customers are the victims.
